MY name is Agnes MacDonald (nee Harris) and I now live in South Africa.
My family originally belonged to Bathgate and I am trying to track down the Harris family bible which I believe was passed down to my grandfather, Thomas Harris, from his father, also Thomas.
The bible is leather-bound and had a brass clasp at the side along with brass corners.
Inside it had pages where family births, marriages and deaths etc could be recorded.
I remember my great grandparents' names were written there (Thomas Harris and Isabella Arthur), other names which may have been recorded are Annie Harris and Isabella Harris.
When my grandparents passed away an uncle remained in the house but moved out about 1953/1954 and when the furniture and household goods were cleared, the bible, to the best of our knowledge, was very likely amongst the goods.
My parents were unsuccessful in tracing the bible at that particular time, from a local second-hand furniture shop where everything was taken, and also some years later when my father tried again to trace it.
It is over 50 years now since the bible went missing, my parents have now passed on, and I myself have reached my 70s and would like to ask if anyone has any knowledge of the whereabouts of our family bible.
My e-mail address is email@example.com.
