Setting the record straight on Gemstone

IN last week's Courier, I was quoted as saying that the Gemfire employees who have recently lost their jobs had been given 90 days notice.

Several of those affected have been good enough to contact me to advise that this is not the case.

I would like to make it clear that my quote was entirely down to my own misunderstanding of the situation and I therefore apologise for any confusion that this may have caused.

Finally, I would like to assure all concerned that, along with my colleagues in the Scottish Government, I will continue to support Gemfire in their efforts to identify alternative funding that will allow their Livingston facility to be re-opened and these valuable jobs to be saved.
