Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi, the so-called Lockerbie Bomber, is much in the news due to his being refused bail.
This overshadows the events that led to his incarceration in the first place.
It is claimed that he received a fair trial under Scots law but, in Scotland, the conviction of a murderer rests in the hands of a jury.
He was denied that right and his fate was decided by three judges. His appeal was heard by another three judges.
Were they likely to overturn the verdict of their colleagues?
There is one fact, that at least has never been denied, which alone might have prevented his conviction as it probably would have swayed a jury.
CIA agents were all over the crash/crime scene before it had been established that a bomb had brought the plane down.
The question is, what was planted or removed and why were they so soon on the site?
It is unlikely that the Chief Constable welcomed them so who gave them authority to disturb a crime scene.
Al Megrahi may or may not be guilty but he certainly did not receive a fair trial.
