Dec 18 2008 West Lothian Courier
AS usual Tommy Davidson's latest outburst in the letters column of the Courier is long on vitriolic rhetoric but short on genuine facts.
Far from deciding not to fly the Union flag, West Lothian Council's SNP led administration has actually increased the days this flag is to be flown - albeit only by one further day.
In their 12 years of running West Lothian Council, Tommy's dad's party refused to fly the Union flag on Armistice Day.
They determined that the Union flag would be flown only on Remembrance Sunday and on the other occasions recommended in government guidelines.
The new SNP led administration changed the protocol to fly our national flag, the Saltire, and the West Lothian Council flag on a daily basis.
To take account of the fact that Armistice Day on November 11 is being more widely marked, and to show our respect for our troops of all generations, we changed the policy to fly the union flag on this additional da.
This is something Tommy and his dad failed to do in their 12 years of control!
