This week's news that the Dunfermline Building Society has collapsed has further eroded our faith in our financial institutions.
All over the world we are seeing once proud organisations being brought to their knees as a result of poor management, driven by greed and selfishness.
That may be a very simplistic analysis of a very complex situation, but no one can deny that the results of years of living beyond our means are all coming home to roost.
What does it mean for us?
It gives us an increasing sense of dread. A feeling of insecurity. What will become of us? Will we be able to maintain the lifestyle we desire?
What about our ‘rainy day’ fund, when we look out of the window and see that it's pouring down?
Jesus said: “Do not store up riches for yourselves here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and robbers break in and steal.
“Instead, store up riches for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and robbers cannot break in and steal. For your heart will always be where your riches are.”
Where are your real riches?
