Politicians should stop bickering and sort out mess at St John’s

FOLLOWING your page last week and the letter from Mr Steele about progress on St John’s Hospital, leads me to question what progress was being made and indeed who had been elected as the independent consultant.

The appointment was heralded in an announcement in September/October 2008 by the leader of West Lothian Council and was welcomed by campaigners and the community as a whole, given it was to be a completely “independent” review.

All others so far have not always been in the best interests of the people of West Lothian.

We need the truth from a truly independent source looking at the situation on behalf of the community and its requirements and how best St John’s can meet these needs.

If we are at risk by the present status then this requires addressing and surely we must look to our elected members, both in council and government, to look after our health and our lives.

This should be a matter for cross-party unity and not involved in this unseemly and undignified fight for power.

The council as a whole and MSPs across the divide need to stop bickering and start the process of caring for their electorate.
