GIVEN the number of MPs making dubious claims for their expenses, it was odds on that two local MPs would also be involved.
Sure enough, Michael Connarty and Jim Devine have been named in the press.
They have not only colluded in the sale of furniture, one to the other, but individually as well. Mr Connarty’s £250 alarm clock must surely be ticking for them both.
However, it is my MP, the Honourable Member for Livingston, Mr Jim Devine that concerns me most.
It is alleged that he submitted a bogus invoice for work done at his London flat. A fictitious company and a false VAT registration number. He claims that he was given the name of the tradesman in a London pub (a nice one Jim) who carried out the work for the sum of £2157.30
Of course he couldn’t remember the details of the tradesman, name, address etc. Perhaps that was to be expected, one should be wary of transactions that are made in pubs.
Would any of your readers forget the name of a tradesman carrying out work for that value? I think not.
As one of his constituents I would suggest to Mr Devine that he do the honourable thing and resign. However, that old adage comes to mind, “there is no honour among thieves.”
