Jan 7 2010 West Lothian Courier
I THOUGHT it would be worth voicing my opinion via your letters page, on the lack of response by West Lothian Council to the clearing of roads and footpaths during the recent heavy snow falls.
Nearly everyone mentions the lack of activity by the council to try and keep roads and footpaths clear.
Perhaps it is because there is not an award for doing so, as WLC would appear to be more interested in obtaining awards and building new offices for themselves.
I have no doubt had there been an award for clearing roads and footpaths you wouldn't have been able to use the roads for gritters and snow ploughs.
The number of complaints and letters regarding the lack of response by WLC to this matter would appear to be ignored as is their normal course of action with such issues; in my opinion the best method of resolving this problem would be for the people of West Lothian to put forward a vote of no confidence in WLC and take appropriate action by voting accordingly at the next local election.
WLC do not seem to heed the number of complaints made by the public regarding their lack of clearing paths and roads, and other issues and carry on regardless of public opinion lacking in a service which we all contribute towards, but obviously do not receive.
On Sunday, January 3 I passed WLC highways gritting depot at Bathgate at approximately 11am and there were eight gritters all sitting parked up.
Why were they not out gritting and clearing snow, the purpose of their being?
