FAULDHOUSE honoured one of its favourite sons this week.
Britain’s Got Talent finalist Andrew Muir was guest of honour at a party thrown at Fauldhouse Miners Welfare Club on Friday to recognise his hard work and achievements in the show.
The evening was a roaring success and Andrew was overwhelmed that so many people came out for his special night.
The talented singer, nicknamed the singing plumber because of his day job, wowed audiences and judges alike with his performances on the national TV show.
However, he fell at the final hurdle when he was forced to sing a cover of John Lennon’s Imagine – a song he had never sung before.
Andrew felt his chance at a singing career was over after the TV show’s tour ended earlier this year.
But a chance e-mail has resurrected his bid for singing fame and Andrew has been busy travelling up and down to London to work on his debut album for the past two months.
The Fauldhouse singer was given his big chance thanks to celebrity fixer Max Clifford.
Andrew had contacted the PR guru to thank him for some nice comments he had made about him during the filming of Britain’s Got Talent.
And Clifford was so impressed by Andrew that he set him up with Peter Jamieson, Nick Fleming and Osman Kent, of Songphonic Records, to mastermind his assault on the charts.
Andrew told the Courier: “We are working on something that will be credible and I can be proud of.
“We’ve got about 20 songs recorded at the moment and I want to get that down to between 10 and 13.
“It has always been my dream to release an album and Max and Peter have been great with me.
“Max has said that he will help with all the PR when the album is ready to be launched.
“Nick and Osman are writing the album with me and Peter and Nick Fleming will be looking at the marketing and distribution.
“I was a bit down about the final show and felt I’d blown it.
“I’d gone back to my job but Max made me feel I should believe in myself and go for it. It’s amazing what a thanks can do.”
And Andrew also praised boss Francis Mancini and his dad Albert and Fauldhouse councillor Neil Findlay for helping organise his special evening.
The singer was presented with gifts including a signed picture of Simon Cowell, which Andrew took in good spirits.
He said: “It was a great night and I can’t thank everyone enough.
“I’ve buried the hatchet with Simon. I was upset at the comments he made about my performance at the time but I know now I could have sung it better.
“I was also given an engraved miner’s helmet which is great as both my granddads were miners and it reminds me of them.”
