SCOTTISH saxophone legend Tommy Smith will lead the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO) during a concert in Linlithgow today (Friday).
The event also features the West Lothian Schools’ Big Band and West Lothian Schools’ Little Band and is a culmination of a project that has seen Tommy and SNJO working with young jazz musicians since January.
Each of the three bands will play their own set and some hugely-talented young musicians from West Lothian may even be invited to become featured soloists with the world famous SNJO.
The project is just one being supported by the Scottish Arts Council Youth Music Initiative.
It is also one of the partnership projects that resulted in West Lothian Council’s Instrumental Music Service being awarded the Will Michael Diploma by the National Music Council in recognition of its outstanding commitment to jazz in education.
The concert takes place at Linlithgow Academy at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 or £4 concession and are available on 01506 433634.
There may also be some tickets available on the door from 7pm.
