Bringing credit crunch to book

WITH news about the economic crisis seemingly getting worse every day there seems to be little reason for cheer in the New Year.

The term credit crunch has entered people’s everyday vocabulary as banks are nationalised, businesses go bust and jobs are lost.

But one West Lothian man has decided to try and beat the crisis and has written a self-help guide on how to come out the other side of it better off.

Thomas Harry, 27, has penned ‘How to beat the credit crunch and come out a winner’ to help the millions of people who have been effected by it.

Thomas, from Linlithgow, was inspired to write the book after his own brother lost his job.

“I saw the devastating effect the credit crunch was having on lots of people,” Thomas said.

”I was just looking for information on it for myself and realised that there was not anything about for people.

“So many people are struggling because of the credit crunch, but few know where to find help or advice.

“After realising it was a worsening situation, I decided to write this simple help book, which I started a few months back.”

Thomas, who has a Business Studies degree from Strathclyde University, says the book contains down to earth advice about the credit crunch.

Thomas added: “I didn’t want to approach it from a business perspective and make it too complicated.

“I think I have tried to break it all down for people and make it as simple and straightforward as possible.

“I give a simple overview of what the credit crunch is and information on government intervention.

“The book also has good job loss advice and work sheets and a budget planner to help people plan ahead.

“It’s not just about increasing your income but more about making the most of what you have.”

The former St Kentigern’s pupil now works as a housing assistant for Clackmannanshire Council but has done various writing and journalism courses.

In the past he has written for Gretna Football Club’s website and Edinburgh City Council’s newsletter.

But this is his first book and Thomas is proud of the finished product.

He said: “When I first received copies of the book from the publisher, it gave me a great sense of achievement, especially as I knew it would help people.

“I would have made it £1 if I could have as it would be great for everyone to have a copy but we have to cover the costs.”

The book, priced £5.99, is available from www.secured-life.com and Amazon.
