Baton charge as Mark is unveiled as new conductor for county brass band

A WEST Lothian band has introduced its new conductor to the public.

Bathgate’s Newland Concert Brass has announced that Mark Good is the new conductor for Newland Junior Band and Beginners Group.

Mark is originally from Campbeltown, and began playing the trombone aged eight, eventually making the switch to bass trombone.

He received his first few years of instruction from Gordon Evans MBE.

Mark has enjoyed competing at solo, ensemble and banding level over hios career and this culminated in 2007, becoming the Scottish Youth Solo Champion.

For a number of years, he has been a member of Campbeltown Brass.

Mark has also served as Bandmaster of Campbeltown Junior Brass.

He is now a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland and since 2003, has presented the "Brass Band Show," a weekly programme on local radio station Argyll FM.

Mark is a student at the RSAMD on the BMus (Hons) course under Chris Stearn (Scottish Opera).

The new conductor is also receiving conducting lessons from Dr Alastair Mitchell.
