Livingston Art Association holds new exhibition

LIVINGSTON Art Association held their 39th annual art exhibition at Howden Park Centre, Livingston for the first time in three years.

The exhibition was opened to a packed reception by West Lothian Provost, Tom Kerr.

The exhibition recently ran for almost two weeks at the centre and proved to be a major success.

Art Association President, Linda Lincoln, introduced the Provost who said that he and wife Marion had enjoyed judging the exhibition this year.

He told the gathering: “The standard of work was so exceptionally high that it was often difficult to tell which exhibits were the work of the professional artists and which were those of the amateurs.”

The provost then presented the awards to this year’s prize-winners.

The ‘Durance Trophy’ for the best overall picture went to Don Chadwick, who also won the ‘Mary Lamb Award’ for versatility, enthusiasm and endeavour.

The ‘Jack Tulloch Award’ for wildlife or nature study went to Ruth Richardson who was also commended for one of her other paintings.

The ‘Gordon Davies Award’ for a West Lothian scene went to Jenny Munro and the ‘Thora Beattie Award’ for the most amusing painting was won by Helen Pruden.

The ‘President’s Prize’ went to J D R Campbell and the ‘Jean Ward Cup’ for exceptional service to Livingston Art Association was awarded to Ralph Ibbott. Pat Hossack and Peter Wallace were both commended.

The ‘Pottery Quiach’ for the best in show went to Alison Brady and Helen Macdonald and Helen Smith were both commended for their pottery exhibits.

The exhibition was free to the public and was very well supported.

LAA are hoping to move back into the newly refurbished studios at Howden Park Centre in June and welcome any new members.

There are several morning and evening classes and for further information check out their website: www.livingston-art-assoc.org.uk.
