Toyota reassures customers over safety
BELEAGUERED Toyota is asking more than 180,000 drivers of its cars to get repairs carried out on faulty accelerator linkages.
But the company insists that its products remain safe to drive.
'Safety is our prime concern and that is why we have set up the recall programme to ensure our customers continue to benefit from the highest standards of safety, quality and service.
'We would like to reassure customers that the potential issue identified with the accelerator pedal only occurs in very rare circumstances. Our recall action is a precautionary measure,' said Toyota GB managing director Miguel Fonseca.
A total of 180, 865 UK-registered cars are subject to the rectification work, which takes 30 minutes to complete, and the company is working with the DVLA to identify owners and make contact.
Models from the iQ, Aygo, Yaris, Auris, Corolla, Avensis and Verso ranges are affected by the recall, but the action does not involve RAV4 or Lexus vehicles.
Parts required for the fix are being delivered to company-approved service centres and the repair work is expected to be under way from February 10.
