Talks begin on human rights claims

Talks will start immediately between Westminster and the Scottish Government on moves to stop a flood of human rights claims by prisoners, Scots Secretary Jim Murphy has said.

He pledged to work with First Minister Alex Salmond and the justice secretary, Kenny MacAskill, to find a solution to the legal problem which has already cost Holyrood £11.2 million, and could cost a further £50 million.

Mr Murphy told BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland: "I am confident that I can fix this. I am very clear that it should be fixed."
