Devolution report chief quizzed

The head of a commission which drew up a blueprint for greater devolution has denied that independence had been the "elephant in the room" during its deliberations.

Sir Kenneth Calman, whose report produced several recommendations, including more income tax powers for Holyrood, also denied he had come under political pressure to take a particular line.

Asked by SNP MP Pete Wishart if independence had been the "elephant in the room" during the commission's discussions, Sir Kenneth said: "I think it's entirely inappropriate to described independence as an elephant."
