Small firms hit as loans rejected

Smaller firms in Scotland have been hit hardest by banks turning down applications for finance, a report has revealed.

The findings of a nationwide survey showed just 60% of "micro" enterprises had successful applications this year, compared with 82% in 2007.

Finance Secretary John Swinney said the figures showed a need for banks to "step up" support for Scottish business.
