Offenders not finishing sentences

More than a third of offenders who start community sentences don't complete them, new figures revealed.

Labour branded it a blow to the SNP's plans to discourage judges from handing out jail terms of less than six months in favour of tougher community sentences.

The figures, obtained in a Parliamentary answer, show that three Scottish councils had successful completion rates of 50% or less.
