Chiefs accused of pay freeze plan

Union leaders have claimed that council chiefs are considering imposing a pay freeze lasting up to five years on staff.

Bosses of the trade union Unison raised concerns ahead of a meeting of the local government organisation Cosla. The union said Cosla leaders were due to discuss their response to the recession at that meeting.

And Unison - which represents about 100,000 council workers in Scotland - claimed that leaked discussion documents suggested that a pay freeze lasting up to five years could be on the agenda.
