Snooker players quizzed on betting

Two snooker stars have been questioned by police over alleged irregular betting patterns during a UK Championship match.

Stephen Maguire, 28, and Jamie Burnett, 33, were released without charge after being held by Strathclyde Police.

The force's economic crime unit is investigating claims linked to the result of a game between the two Scots in Telford on December 15 last year. The first-round match, which was subject to investigations by World Snooker and the Gambling Commission, was won 9-3 by Maguire. Maguire, ranked number two in the world, won the match after Burnett failed to pot a black ball that would have reduced his score to 8-4.
