Rudolf Hess guard awarded medal

A soldier who guarded Nazi war criminal Rudolf Hess has been honoured at a ceremony in Edinburgh.

Veterans Minister Kevan Jones presented campaign medals and badges to five distinguished former servicemen and women.

Motherwell-based John Romanes, who guarded Hess at the notorious Spandau prison during his service in Berlin, was presented with a service medal.
