Nation braced for heavy snowfall

Scotland was bracing itself for heavy snowfall across much of the country.

Christmas shoppers and revellers can expect plunging temperatures and blizzards as the cold snap continues into one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Forecasters said only the far western coast would escape the snow showers, which are expected to move in from the north and take in most of the country by 6pm.
