£3m weather fund boost for farmers

Farmers are to receive a £3 million Government handout to offset the extra costs they have endured as a result of the severe weather, it has been announced.

Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead confirmed the package at the annual general meeting of the National Farmers Union Scotland in St Andrews.

Mr Lochhead said the Government "sat round the table with the industry" to find "distinct solutions" for the agriculture industry.
