Flying doctor scheme to be extended

A flying doctor service is being extended to cover all of remote and rural Scotland, Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (EMRS) is used to fly doctors to treat critically ill or seriously injured patients in parts of the country which are hard to reach.

A pilot service has already been running in the west of Scotland and Ms Sturgeon revealed that it was being expanded to cover all of Scotland.
