The number of marriages in Scotland plunged to its lowest level since Victorian times, new figures have revealed.
There were 27,524 weddings last year, the lowest rate in the record books since 1855, according to the General Register Office for Scotland. There was also a drop in the number of civil partnerships, with the number of male partnerships more than halving since their peak four years ago, the figures on births, deaths and marriages showed.
The statistics also reveal a fall in deaths caused by the nation's three biggest killers - cancer, heart disease and stroke.
