New snaring rules come into force

Rules governing the way animals can be caught in snares have come into force despite a campaign to have the traps outlawed.

The changes mean snares must be checked at least once a day, nooses must not tighten beyond a certain point and the traps must be "anchored" to stop them being dragged by a captured animal.

The Scottish Government measures also state that snares must not be left in a way that could suspend or drown an animal.
