BBC to look at SNP debate proposals

The BBC is to consider SNP proposals aimed at resolving a row over forthcoming General Election television debates after talks.

The meeting in Edinburgh, which was attended by First Minister Alex Salmond, was described afterwards by the corporation`s chief political adviser Ric Bailey as "constructive".

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Tory leader David Cameron and Liberal Democrat chief Nick Clegg are due to take part in three presidential-style debates which will be hosted by Sky News, ITV and the BBC. The exclusion of the Nationalists has infuriated party chiefs and Friday's two-hour meeting was aimed at reaching a resolution.
