Police force plans to cut 800 posts

Scotland's largest police force is looking to lose 200 officers and 600 civilian support staff, it has been confirmed.

Stephen House, the Chief Constable of Strathclyde Police, said looming budget cuts meant the force had "no choice" but to reduce its numbers.

Councillor Stephen Curran, the convener of Strathclyde Police Authority, said the "unprecedented" scale of cuts meant that the loss of staff was "inevitable".
