Council leaders impose pay deal

Scotland's council leaders have said they had "no option" but to impose a pay deal on tens of thousands of local authority workers.

The move will mean that council staff across the country will have a pay rise of 0.65% this financial year, but will see their salaries frozen for the next two years.

The local government body Cosla had originally offered workers a 1% wage hike for 2010-11, followed by no increase the following year and a rise of 0.5% the year after that. However, this was "overwhelmingly" rejected by members of the trade union Unison.
