RAF officer complete canoe task

A Royal Air Force officer who was seriously injured in an explosion in Afghanistan has spoken of his pride at completing a 100km canoe challenge to raise money and awareness for families affected by the war.

Flight Lieutenant Andy Costin was thrown around 30ft and received a head injury, damaged his right shoulder and broke his lower back when the improvised explosive device (IED) detonated during a patrol two years ago.

He had been in a Land Rover travelling across a dry riverbed close to Kandahar Airfield at the time while serving as an officer in 3 Squadron Royal Air Force Regiment.
