AV poll 'may delay election count'

The count for next year's Holyrood elections could be delayed because of the referendum on the alternative vote being held on the same day, the SNP has said.

The UK Government has put forward plans to hold a referendum on ditching first-past-the-post in Westminster elections in favour of the alternative vote system.

But there has been fierce criticism of the proposed date of May 5 next year, as this clashes with Scottish, Welsh and council elections.
