Police braced for £88.5m funds cut

Police forces are braced for cuts which could see a reduction of more than 2,800 officers across Scotland, it has been claimed.

An estimated £88.5 million is expected to be removed from the budget - which has not yet been set - leaving some areas with levels not seen since the 1990s.

Les Gray, chairman of the Scottish Police Federation, said the service is working on the assumption of a 24% cut over the next four years, starting with 9% in 2011-12.
