Ministers approve colleges merger

The biggest college in Scotland is to be created after ministers approved the merger of three smaller institutions.

Glasgow's Nautical, Central and Metropolitan colleges will become the City of Glasgow College on Wednesday.

The new college will cater for 40,000 students this year. The Scottish Government said there is unlikely to be any compulsory redundancies.
