MSPs slam finance body figures

The body set up by the SNP to help finance the building of public projects like schools and hospitals provided £111 million of benefits last year, bosses have said.

But the claims were branded "laughable" by opposition MSPs, who said the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) has failed to build any schools or hospitals since being established two years ago.

A report published by the body, set up by the SNP Government to help phase out PPP/PFI schemes, said the benefits came through a mixture of £86 million of efficiency gains and £27 million of additional investment, as well as £1 million of avoided costs. The figures also include the SFT's £3 million operating costs.
