Salmond rejects drilling ban call

First Minister Alex Salmond has refused to back calls for a halt to all new drilling in European waters.

The SNP leader was pressed to endorse a vote by MEPs demanding a moratorium, prompted by the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

It follows a week of protests by environmental activists to stop the Stena Carron oil drill ship leaving for a site in deep water north of Shetland.
