Women outnumber men at colleges

Women are still outnumbering men at colleges and universities in Scotland but the gap is closing, research shows.

The Scottish Funding Council (SFC) looked at participation rates in further and higher education over a five-year period.

It found that in the academic year of 2005-06, 68% of young women aged 16 to 19 went to college or university in Scotland, compared to 61% of young men.
