Dog is ill after scoffing Easter eggs

Creme Eggs

A LABRADOR had to be treated in intensive care by veterinarians after munching through a dozen Easter eggs and their foil wrappers.

Five-year-old Buster managed to find the stash of creme eggs his owner had bought for her grandchildren. Buster looked fine at first but during the night owner Brenda Dawes was wakened by the cries of her pet.

When she got out of bed she realised that there was something seriously wrong as his back legs kept buckling and he couldn't stand.

According to the PDSA the effects of chocolate poisoning in dogs usually appear within six to twelve hours of ingestion, and can last as long as 72 hours.

Symptoms of chocolate poisoning in animals can include vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal tenderness, restlessness and increased heart and breathing rate.

Sever cases can see fits, heart beat irregularities, coma and in the worst case scenarios - death.

Thankfully Buster made a full recovery and is back at home chewing on everything in site. It's a dog's life right enough.
