Poodle plays surrogate mum to baby squirrels

A MATERNAL dog has nursed a family of baby squirrels back to health after their treehouse home was cut down.

Gail Latta tried to feed the young squirrels but then turned to her pet poodle Pixie who had recently become a mum.

Pixie (4), who's own pups had recently been sold, treated the squirrels like her own and fed them until they left for an animal centre.

It is thought that the surrogate mum was a little upset when her family of squirrels were taken away.
