West Lothian elective surgery centre must be welcome news

THE announcement that a new Elective Surgery Centre is to be based in West Lothian and the commitment by NHS Lothian to providing a service there to 3000 more day patients per day is very welcome news indeed.

That this massive increase in patient volume is also supported and welcomed by Theresa Douglas of the CHCP underlines the totality of the commitment and reassures us that all are on board with such a major project.

The additional benefits that this project will bring to the area, including what surely must be a huge increase in nursing and other staff to run and support a unit with such high throughput, together with the investment to necessarily enhance the local infrastructure to cope, will surely have been warmly welcomed throughout the community.

In such bleak economic times this is just what the doctor ordered.
