West Lothian midwife wins top award

Nan Crichton, community midwife with NHS Lothian, beat stiff competition from other midwives across Scotland to become the regional winner.

The award recognises dedication and commitment, beyond the call of duty.

Suzanne Sim and partner Stuart nominated Nan for her exceptional care following a medical condition which left her blind during her pregnancy.

Suzanne said: “Nan prepared me for motherhood with lots of advice and she went out of her way to be helpful and discussing ways of doing things with my limited vision.

Nan, from East Calder, said she was thrilled to be a finalist for the award.

She added: “I would like to thank Suzanne and Stuart for taking the time, at this extremely busy period in their family life, to nominate me and I am look forward to seeing them at the award ceremony.”

Nan, Suzanne, Stuart and baby Lewis attended the awards ceremony in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire earlier this month.
