Agency turn on taps for water upgrade

SCOTTISH Water is set to improve the drinking water pressure for nearly 100 families in Armadale’s High Academy Street, Avondale Crescent and Avondale Drive.

Contractors Farrans will carry out a mains upgrade programme, kicking off on High Academy Street this week.

The £420,000 project will see the replacement of nearly one and a half miles of ageing water mains, over a phased 11 week period.

Project Manager Jim Auldjo and his team will pull out all the stops to complete the project by Sunday.

He said: “It’s important that we keep disruption to a minimum, and that’s why we will be working flat out to upgrade this 440m stretch of mains.

“This part of the network has a recent history of bursts and we anticipate starting the next phase early November.“

Craig Lawson, regional manager for West Lothian said he is delighted to see Scottish Water investing in Armadale.

He added: “Across West Lothian we are looking to improve the look and taste of our drinking water.

“We are investing heavily across the region to deliver clearer, fresher drinking water directly to our customers’ taps. It’s important that this investment is not only directed towards our water treatment works, but into the network as well.”
