Beavers, Cubs, Scouts: East Calder Scout Group is finishing the autumn term with almost double the numbers of boys they started with after enrolling 23 new boys and 2 new leaders into the, Beavers Cubs and Scouts. The boys start the winter term with a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and have a series of events planned, such as a Halloween & Bonfire Party, Trip to the Pantomime and Ice rink as their Christmas outings.

East Calder Scout Groups, Fund Raising Events for the winter term begin with their annual Chippie Ceilidh on Saturday, November 1, featuring The Forth Bridges Dance Band, tickets cost £5 and are available from Jack Galloway on 07790793889.

Councillor Dave Kings Surgeries: Please note the times of Councillor Dave King`s surgeries in Kirknewton and East Calder. They are held every Wednesday at noon in Kirknewton Village Hall, 2pm in the Pigeon Club, East Calder (Back Office) and 6pm in East Calder Community Education Centre. There will also be surgeries on the 1st Saturday of every month at 9am in Kirknewton Village Hall and on the 2nd Saturday every month at 8.30am in East Calder Community Education Centre.

Open Flu Clinic: If you are registered with a doctor at East Calder Medical Practice and you will be 65 over before March 31, 2009, or, if you suffer from Asthma, Diabetes, Heart trouble, Kidney Disease, or Epilepsy you are encouraged to attend for flu vaccination. This open clinic is scheduled for: Thursday, November 6 2008 between 3-5pm No appointment is necessary, just come along between the times stated.

East Calder Homing Society: There will be an Entertainment Night on Friday, November 14 with the live band "All Inclusive" for all ages. Tickets may be purchased from the club with cub members and their guests welcome.

Oakbank of Calderwood F.C: The Under 12's have progressed well during the Under 9's, Under 10's, Under 11's and Under 12's Premier Bruce league campaigns and will shortly be looking to recruit an additional two outfield players and a goalkeeper (Born 1997) during the winter shutdown period, for the transition to the 11-aside game from February/March 2009. The team are based at Oakbank Park, Oakbank Village, East Calder and currently train on Monday evenings at Bannatynes Health Club, Kirkton Campus, Livingston. Oakbank Bowling Club: A disco with bingo will be held on Saturday, October 25 and on Saturday, November 1, the Presentation Dance will take place from 6.30pm till late. Some tickets are still available from the bar. Priced £5 with buffet.

Retirement Course: West Lothian 50+ Network offers a free a comprehensive Pre/Post Retirement Course. It will take place on 5 consecutive Wednesdays starting on Wednesday, October 29 until November 26. Topics covered include managing finances, maintaining physical and psychological health, healthy eating, suggestions towards an active lifestyle and how make the most of the rest of your life. Allsteps Cheerleaders: East Calder Allsteps Cheerleaders are always looking for new squad members. Squad classes are held on a Wednesday evening in East Calder Scout Hall.

Toddler Clinic: A Toddler Clinic for children aged from one year is held on the first Tuesday of each month from 1.30-3.30pm at East Calder Health Centre. No appointment necessary. Contact details; Health Visitors 880582.

Epilepsy West Lothian: Epilepsy West Lothian is always looking for volunteers to become befrienders to adults with epilepsy. Training, support and all expenses are paid. We are also interested in helping any adult with epilepsy who would like to find out more about this service. We also run support groups for adults with epilepsy, parents and carers. New members are always welcome. Mini/Raw Tennis Coaching: Held in East Calder Sports Centre on Fridays and Saturdays. Age is a rough guide to class but ability and potential are more important criteria for class allocation. Fridays 2-3pm three to five years, 3-4pm (6-10 years), 4-5pm and 5-6pm improvers/juniors. Saturdays 9.30-10.30am (three to five years), 10.30-11.30am (6-10 years) and 11.30am-12.30pm minis/improvers. Kirknewton Playgroup: Spaces are available now at the playgroup which meets Monday to Friday 9-11.15am in Kirknewton Village Hall and welcomes children from 2½ years. There are a great selection of toys and facilities for young children to socialise and learn key skills to aid them through nursery and school. Children from Kirknewton and the surrounding areas are welcome. Application forms are available at the Village Hall during playgroup times.

Business Centre: Holds a weekly surgery in the community centre on Thursdays from 10.30am-12.30pm. The surgery is to provide residents in East and Mid Calder with free, professional and confidential advice on all aspects of self employment and business start up. Parents and Babes: Group welcomes all pre-school children (including babies) plus their parents, grandparents or carers. The group meets in East Calder Church Hall on Mondays and Thursdays from 9.30-11.15am. Details from Lesley Moir on 494186.

Dance Classes: New Dance Classes for 5-8 year olds will be commencing soon in the Scout Hall on Friday afternoons. This will include Highland dancing, cheerleading and line dancing. Phone Cathy Bird on 499636 for further details.
