The end of an era as Woolies closes down
CROWDS of bargain hunters flocked to Bathgate’s Woolworths store as the famous shop closed its doors for the final time on Monday.
Shoppers packed the George Street store as the entire stock was put up for sale with an 80 per cent discount on Monday morning.
Then at 3pm a further 10 per cent came off meaning canny shoppers were saving 90 per cent on their goods.
Shelves were stripped bare and the store’s fixtures and fittings were also sold off.
Woolworths is set to disappear from High Streets across the country after administrators failed to find a buyer for the iconic brand, which had debts of over £300 million.
More than 3000 staff are to lose their jobs at more than 80 outlets across Scotland.
The Livingston branch is set to close its doors on January 5.
