Fisher and Tully represent Monarchs at Pairs

THERE will be no speedway at Armadale this week as the sport enjoys the midsummer British Grand Prix weekend, which also features the Premier League Pairs at Somerset.

Hordes of fans will travel south from across Scotland, and for the Scotwaste Monarchs the main focus will be on the Friday night meeting at Somerset in which Ryan Fisher and Andrew Tully will represent the club.

They race in the same section as Glasgow, Workington, Redcar and Birmingham, with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals.

The pair were in fine form last weekend as Monarchs did an excellent job in dispatching Workington from the Knockout Cup by 99-81 on aggregate.

Fisher was top scorer in both the home and away matches with 15 points each time, while Tully had 11 at Armadale and 13 at Workington.

It was a fine team display in a tie which was expected to be pretty tight.

Monarchs are performing well as a team even though there are one or two in the side with more to offer.

Aaron Summers did well at reserve in the home match but not so well down south, and popular Michal Rajkowski is finding it hard to be consistently at his best.

There is a lot of discussion surrounding a possible new signing for the Monarchs to replace their Swede Thomas H Jonasson, who asked for some time off following the death of his father. He was finding his commitments excessive and they are certainly pretty extreme.

The club are in negotiations with an overseas rider and if this is successful an announcement can be expected next week.

The next home match is against the Newport Wasps on Friday, July 3.
