Loads of fun in store at Costa Del Park

MEDITERRANEAN sunshine flooded into Livingston recently with the opening of a new park.

The new £200,000 community play area named Costa Del Park at Heatherbank in Ladywell, was officially opened with a special beach party.

The new park has been created with input from local young people, who took part in its official opening.

West Lothian Youth Action Project (WLYAP) met with over 150 young people aged between 10 and 19 years old, who chose the park’s distinctive name.

To mark the launch, the project team set up a barbecue, gazebo and brought along a DJ.

Costa Del Park includes a kick pitch; facility for wheeled sports, such as skateboards or bikes; large climbing rock surrounded by a moon shaped grass mound; ‘Freeride’, to practice and show off snowboard or surf skills and a flying fox zip slide.

Council leader, Peter Johnston, said: “We are investing over £1million upgrading play parks across West Lothian, and I’m pleased to deliver another excellent facility at Heatherbank.

“I hope the unusual name will help bring good weather to the park, as it’s a fantastic community outdoor leisure centre.

“Along with the usual play features, there will be a range of fitness equipment including a free compact gym, where people of all ages can meet, socialise and be physically active at no cost – an added bonus in the current financial climate.

“We have consulted with the local community throughout this process to make sure it meets their needs, so I hope they will make good use of this top class resource on their doorstep.”
