Information event will focus on issues dealing with older people in area

A SPECIAL information event for older people is set to be held in Whitburn.

West Lothian Council are joining forces with Lothian and Borders Police and a host of other organisations to host the session which will take place at Brucefield Church tomorrow (Friday) from 10am until 12.30pm.

Among the information available will be guidance on how to deal with bogus callers and rogue traders.

There will also be advice about credit unions, an opportunity forthe older people to tell the police what they think of the service they provide and a chance to speak to representatives from the other agencies involved, including Ageing Well, Whitburn Older Peoples Partnership Centre, Department for Work and Pensions, the MOOD Project and the Council’s Housing Services, Trading Standards and Health Improvement teams.

Teas, coffees and a free buffet lunch will also be provided throughout the event.

Constable Stuart Neilson, from Lothian and Borders Police explained: “This is a pilot event aimed at taking some important issues directly to older people.

“If the information event is judged to be a success, we plan to take it to other communities within West Lothian.”

Executive councillor for services for the community, Frank Anderson added: “We hope the event will be a huge success and look forward to working with the police and the other partner organisations.”
