Kids put skates on

CHILDREN in a West Lothian village were on a roll recently.

Winchburgh Community Education Association were awarded cash from the West Lothian Community Chest small grants programme.

And the funding allowed the group to hire a mobile skate park for two days of the October holidays and keep kids active and entertained.

The programme, which is part supported by LEADER European funding, aims to strengthen the social and community infrastructure of West Lothian through discrete, small-scale developments and specific projects aimed at helping overcome barriers to services.

Linda Owen, the council’s locality planning officer, said: “The skate park was a great success with young people coming along and enjoying the facility.

“Young people from the “This is Winchburgh” group filmed the event and interviewed villagers on what they thought about opportunities for young people in the village.

“There was so much enthusiasm from the people who came down to the skate park, that a meeting has been set up to look at options for developing a permanent skate park for Winchburgh.

“The meeting will be held in Winchburgh Community Centre on November 12 at 7.30pm and we hope for a good turnout.

“Anyone who is interested in being involved in this is welcome to come along to the meeting.

“We would be especially interested to hear the thoughts of youngsters in the village.”
