Fairtrade status is retained

A WEST Lothian town is celebrating after scooping Fairtrade status for the second year.

Whitburn Fairtrade Steering Group celebrated a very successful One World Week Coffee Morning within St Joseph's Parish Centre last month and were particularly delighted to announce that they have recently received confirmation from the Fairtrade Foundation that their renewal application for Fairtrade Town status for Whitburn has been successful.

The Foundation stated: “It was clear that the local campaign has continued to make progress over the last two years, winning-over new hearts and minds within the people of Whitburn, in addition to maintaining existing support.”

A spokesman for the group said: “We would like to thank all the organisations, shops and catering outlets and schools who have been involved in ensuring that the Whitburn Fairtrade campaign continues to go from strength to strength and the support it offers to communities in the developing world.

“We would particularly like to thank all the ‘behind the scenes’ helpers.”
