West Lothian dance fans will be kept on toes

DANCE fans are in for a treat this weekend when Musically Active Dudes and the Lighthouse Dance Project put on a performance of their work followed by a buffet and disco.

Earlier this year the two groups performed some of their work when Angela Constance MSP attended the evening and presented members with their certificates and funding of £9976 from Awards for All.

Musically Active Dudes provide a safe, supportive and fun environment for disabled people to explore their creative side.

All participants and all levels of ability are welcome and resident professionals are Marc, a Mercury Award nominee, musician and music producer and Pam, a trained dance teacher with groups in Telford College and Dance Base (Edinburgh) and the founder of the Lighthouse Dance Project (Edinburgh). Both of them, working in their respective fields for a number of years, have specialised in work with individuals with additional support needs.

The classes are held on Thursdays at the Elim Church in Knightsridge and are specifically designed by them to encourage individual and group development.

Those attending the classes are there to be challenged, learn new skills, enhance their senses, build confidence and self-esteem, have fun, exercise and relax.

By attending sessions each person is able, at their own level, to work towards a certificate of achievement and has a chance to perform in an annual showcase.

The cost for all this is £5 per person per session (support workers come free and enjoy activities together with the person they support) or £10 for two sessions which includes tea and coffee and, during term-time, also includes a lunch of homemade soup and bread.

The performance will be on Saturday, November 7 at 7 until 10pm at the Elim Church, Fells Rigg, Knightsridge, Livingston.

Following the performance there will be a light buffet and a disco with fundraising games.

Tickets will be £5 at the door and will include a CD of some of the group’s work. Anyone interested in the work of both or either group is welcome to come along.
