VOLUNTEERS are being sought to act as role models to troubled teenagers.
Voluntary Sector Gateway West Lothian and West Lothian Council’s ‘More Choices, More Chances’ team are planning a collaborative, year-long pilot project centred on providing 40 volunteer mentors to act as role models to young people within two of the council’s secondary schools and to young people who have left school and are seeking employment.
The age range of the young people to be mentored will be 14 to 19 years old.
The Young People’s Mentoring Programme will seek to address what is perceived to be one of the contributing factors in the young people not achieving a good standard of learning, level of personal motivation and employment – the absence of a positive role model in their lives.
The scheme aims to recruit volunteer mentors from withinŠWest Lothian’s Business Community as well as the public and private sectors.
The training and ongoing support of the mentors will be provided free of charge and reasonable travel expenses met.
Training will take place at Voluntary Sector Gateway from 9am to 3.30pm on Saturday (November 7).
To book your place on the next training course please call Voluntary Sector Gateway on 01506 650111 or email vsg@vsgwl.org
